BricsCAD English Spelling Dictionaries

About
The English version of BricsCAD®, like AutoCAD® uses American English by default. This is the case for all commands, HELP etc. Unfortunately the BricsCAD installer includes just an American English dictionary for SPELL checking. It is possible to add additional dictionaries sourced from OpenOffice, LibreOffice, or other variants of OpenOffice but the process is somewhat involved.
To make life a bit easier, we've compiled a selection of the common English spelling dictionaries, which you can download using the button below. The following English dictionaries are included:
- en_AU (Australian)
- en_CA (Canadian)
- en_GB (British) (-ise)
- en_NZ (New Zealand)
- en_US (American)
- en_ZA (South African) (-ise)
These dictionaries should work with any recent version of BricsCAD from V14 on.
Sources
The New Zealand English dictionary (en_NZ) has been sourced from here:
The other English dictionaries have been sourced from here:

NOTE. OpenOffice dictionaries and their variants package their dictionaries in a .OXT file in zip format. To utilise in BricsCAD you need to unzip the contents of the .OXT and copy any files .DIC and .AFF files to a folder on your support file search path.
Setup
To set these dictionaries up for use in BricsCAD:
- Download the dictionaries using the button below
- Extract the contents to a known folder location on your computer.
- In BricsCAD run the SETTINGS command, then:
- Restart BricsCAD to save your setting changes.
Now when using the SPELL command you should find that it defaults to your selected dictionary.

From the SPELL command you will also find options to set to other dictionaries if you want.
