BricsCAD Licensing Changes

In recent years, Bricsys has implemented several changes to its licensing arrangements and policies. Current options can always be found in the Bricsys EULA. To assist, we have summarized the key changes below.

To assist, we've summarised the key changes below.

Fixed license keys

From BricsCAD V24, license keys will not change with each new release. For most people, this should be a welcome change as it greatly simplifies license management.

This change places a much greater importance on deactivating  instead of revoking your license if you need to move your copy of BricsCAD to another machine. This is because you can only revoke a license twice ever. If you hit this limit, you can revoke a license by raising a support request with Bricsys.

Support is only available with maintenance.

Bricsys now only provides support to clients who have current maintenance or a subscription. Importantly, this includes requests to revoke a license.

Single User license, single activation

From March 17th, 2025, all NEW single-user licenses will only allow the user to activate once. If the user needs to access BricsCAD on another machine, they would need to deactivate BricsCAD on the existing machine, then reactivate it on the other.

This change doesn't affect clients with single-user licenses purchased before this date. They will retain the option of utilising BricsCAD on a second machine. We emphasise that it is only allowed for a single user under the EULA. In no circumstances is it allowed to for more than one person to utilise at a time.

Switching between licence types

It is not possible to switch between license types (Single , Volume or Network), e.g. it is not possible to switch from a Single user license to Volume. It is also not possible to switch from subscription to perpetual licenses.

Network / Volume licenses

• BricsCAD Lite Network licenses can only be purchased in increments of 5 seats.

• Partial upgrade of the seats of a license to a higher level is not allowed. Any upgrade must be applied to all seats.

• Merging licenses requires signing an official document from Bricsys to confirm that the old license file(s) have been removed properly.

• Licenses cannot be split.

•At the time of maintenance renewal, a reduction of license seat count requires the seats removed to be forfeited. This means that if those seats were required again in the future, a new license would need to be purchased.

Maintenance

• Maintenance is mandatory for the 1st year with all new licenses and upgrades.

• Maintenance renewal applies to ALL like products. For example, if you have 20 BricsCAD Ultimate licenses covered under maintenance, then you would need to renew maintenance on all 20 licenses.

• You can align maintenance on renewal to existing licenses, provided the renewal period is 9 months or longer.

• Maintenance renewals should be processed before the expiry date of the existing contract. If the renewal is not processed within 7 days of the expiry date, then an upgrade is required in addition to maintenance.
